Nice Rides

B and I took a bike ride -- a 27 mile one -- a few weeks ago.

We picked our only free Saturday in September and greased up our bicycles to head north. We zigzagged through the city to the path that runs north to the Chicago Botanic Garden.

Since our trip to Minnesota where we rode Minneapolis' Nice Ride bikes we've been more bike crazy than usual. We joined Chicago's Divvy Bike program -- I like to hop on a bike to dash from work to the train. It's a total treat to take a bike to a near-but-not-super-close destination, hop off the bike and leave it wherever you like. I finally upgraded my bike helmet and have been absolutely loving this new part of my commute.

Our Botanic Garden ride was gorgeous. We chose a perfect day, packed a delicious lunch with a bottle of wine and went to our favorite part of the garden: Fruit & Vegetable Island (actually just called the Fruit & Vegetable Garden, but it's kinda an island so that's what we call it). B asked me to marry him there, next to two old Polish ladies as we ate a picnic lunch using a corkscrew as a fork.

Fruit & Vegetable Island was great in 2009 and remains a spectacular place to hang out. This time we stumbled upon a cooking demonstration so we got an extra snack -- pork chops with blueberry sauce, cauliflower & asparagus. And our wine complimented our extra snack perfectly! We roamed the English garden, saw some bonsai trees, saw some waterlilies, smelled some fall roses, and saw a fancy wedding being set up. All in all -- lovely!

Instead of biking back we headed two miles east to the Metra and had a luxurious ride home. Way to enjoy fall, right?

This sounds amazing! Maybe next summer Kyle and I can join you for a bike ride? I love riding my bike!
