Leaf Peeping!

B and I were lucky enough to take a quick weekend trip to New York -- somehow we had perfect timing for fall leaves in Lake Placid and delightful weather.

We flew to LaGuardia and spent a night at Julie's awesome apartment in Queens. We took off (with a bagel breakfast & coffees in hand) in Julie's ride to Lake Placid where B's Grandma lives. B's Grandma is moving to Florida soon so this was essentially our last chance to visit Lake Placid and his family's longtime home.

B's Grandma was kind enough to give us passes to a lot of the sights in Lake Placid so we were able to check out a lot! Since it's truly one of the most beautiful places I've been, I'll let picture tell the story!
Roni The Raccoon was a mascot for the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. He's pretty cute! We went the the Olympic icehouse where the Miracle On Ice happened and to a little Olympic museum there. We saw Olympic medals as well as some cool Olympic outfits like Sonja Henie's ice skating dress!

After seeing some Olympic stuff we walked around beautiful Mirror Lake. Then we drove to the ski jumps (view below) which are crazy. I guess people don't get killed ski jumping all the time, but it seems like they would. We saw a few actually ski jumpers practicing on a faux hill and landing in a big, deep swimming pool!
The fall colors are just amazing. I don't think any photos really capture them, but it was just like someone painted them.

On Sunday we drove up Whiteface Mountain and took a little hike to the very top. What a clear day! The fall colors get muddied when you're up so high, but we could see Canada so that was pretty cool. We also went up a gondola (like a ski lift, but enclosed) to another side of Whiteface Mountain where (crazy) people ski. After all that mountain fun we watched the Bears!

We left on Monday after a nice breakfast with B's Grandma and her sweet pup Trixie at the family home. B's Grandma was sweet enough to give us apples, muffins, sandwiches and lots of snacks for all our adventures.

On the way out of town we stopped at Olympic Bobsled facility where bobsledders, lougers and other sled-types practice. At one of the Olympic stops we saw a few Olympic types -- one of them looked like Captain America.

We zoomed back to Julie's and watched the leaves go from colorful and vibrant back to green as we went south. The next day we flew home -- what a trip!
