My evaluation from my last day of med-surg clinicals was excellent (!!!) and my instructor even said she thinks I will one day get my PhD in nursing.*
I had a fantastic last day at my clinical. I followed a great nurse around, took care of four different patients, got to get better at a few tricky skills, and discontinued an IV. The nurse I worked complimented me and I got a pretty stubborn patient to smile. I think it was my skillful mixing of juices according to his orders and that I told him that he was smarter than me after he directed me to turning off the lights properly.
Mostly, I wanted to write a quick post about a great day. It's been a lot of work, a lot of sacrifices and taking a quite a few leaps into the great unknown to get this far. And I feel so confident in this awesome work world I'm joining -- as a place for me, a place to have a good work-life, and as a place to do good.
*I assured her that any further schooling will be a long way off, but just the same it's nice to think of myself as a professor or an advanced practice nurse. Maybe. Someday.
