I saw this sign along my way. Since Lawrence and Wilson are two blocks apart, and are both landmarks along my route I found this sign hilariously unhelpful. |
(When you train for a race, or whatever, you usually do a few short runs and one long run each week -- the long run gets longer to prepare you for the big day.)
I looked over my Monday schedule and realized I could squeeze a run in between classes -- eureka!
I packed a bag so I could change, run, shower and go on with my day as a non-smelly person, set up my iPod shuffle for a run, mapped a route and psyched myself up. It felt nice to get my legs moving instead of sitting at a computer or doing a dreadful group project during this lengthy break.
I took a sunshiny run down Sheridan Road to the desolate Lake Path down to Montrose Avenue, then looped back to school. Wonderful! Sheridan Road is crazy-busy, but jogging down the Lake Path is among the best things a person can do in Chicago. On a Monday morning it's pretty empty. I got to watch the waves, feel a wonderful lake breeze, stop for water breaks at the fountains, check out some boats at Montrose Harbor, and step in some sand. Beautiful!
I planned for a six mile run and ended up going seven miles (wow!). I took a nice shower in the clean locker rooms at school and had a merry day with a run done before noon. Sweet!
And, I just took a hot bath so my muscles are ready for another day marching around the hospital. Happy spring!
